Chiton die-off at Pillar Point, Half Moon Bay

It is unclear as to the reason why there is a die-off of chitons at Pillar Point Beach, Half Moon Bay. The die-off could be related to El Nino or an algal bloom. I believe these are “gumboot” chitons (Cryptochiton stelleri). I documented 50 chitons below (on Christmas day), but there were more.
