Environmental Dates – Observances

Come to find out, there are up to 100 special days set aside for just about every aspect of our natural environment, from recycling – to International Tiger Day. So, I thought I’d highlight just the observances specific to conservation, pollution reduction and cleaning up the environment:

  • National Green Week (U.S.): First week of February
  • National Park Week: April 19-27
  • Bike to Work Day: Third Friday in May
  • National Trails Day: First Saturday in June
  • World Environment Day: June 5
  • Recycle Week: June 20-26
  • National Clean Beaches Week: July 1 to 7
  • Intl. Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer: September 16
  • Clean Up the World Campaign: Third weekend in September
  • Zero Emissions Day: September 21
  • World Car Free Day: September 22
  • Junk Mail Awareness Week: First week of October
  • America Recycles Day: November 15
  • Buy Nothing Day: held annually in late November
  • European Week for Waste Reduction: Last week of November
  • World Conservation Day: December 3
  • Intl. Volunteer Day: December 5

Honoring Earth’s land and waterways:

  • World Wetlands Day: February 2
  • Earth Day: April 22
  • World Ocean’s Day: June 8
  • World Rivers Day: Last Sunday in September
  • World Soil Day: December 5
  • Intl. Mountain Day: December 11
